How it works

How to track new releases with Webtor.io

Replace your RSS pipeline with release alerts from your own sources in 3 simple steps.

1

Connect your sources

Add a Torznab indexer (Jackett, Prowlarr) or a Stremio addon in your profile. Subscriptions search the sources you already trust.

2

Subscribe with one click

Open a movie or an airing season on the Discover page and click the bell. No filters, feeds or rules to configure.

3

Get new releases by email

Webtor checks your sources on a schedule and emails you when a release you haven't seen appears. Several finds arrive as one letter, not a flood.

Explained

What a torrent RSS feed does — and why you may not need one

A torrent RSS feed is the classic way to automate downloads: a client or a tool like Sonarr polls the feed and grabs new releases that match your filters. It works, but it means a client that never sleeps, filter rules to maintain, and usually a home server or NAS.

Webtor's release subscriptions do the same job server-side. Subscribe to a season or a movie once, and Webtor polls your own indexers and Stremio addons for you — everything new arrives as an email with links you can stream right away.

Comparison

Webtor subscriptions vs a Sonarr / RSS stack

Both watch your trackers for new releases. The difference is who runs the machinery.

Webtor subscriptions
  • • Nothing to host — works from your browser
  • • Uses your own indexers and Stremio addons
  • • New releases arrive as one batched email
  • • Stream instantly, no disk space needed
Sonarr + RSS stack
  • • Needs an always-on server or NAS
  • • Client, proxy and filter rules to maintain
  • • Downloads everything to local storage
  • • Full library automation and renaming

If you want a complete self-hosted media pipeline, Sonarr is excellent. If you just want to know when a new episode or a better rip appears — and watch it right away — a one-click subscription does it with none of the upkeep.

Benefits

What release subscriptions give you

One click on a bell replaces an entire RSS pipeline.

Email alerts for new episodes of airing seasons
New rips of a movie you are waiting for
Per-subscription quality and language filters
Batched emails with one-click unsubscribe
Safety

Your sources stay yours

Subscriptions search only the indexers and addons you connected yourself, on gentle schedules — a private tracker sees less traffic than from a typical RSS poller. Every email names the source that found the release, and unsubscribing is one click away.

FAQ

Common questions

Quick answers to the things people ask most.

Is Webtor.io free to use?

Yes, Webtor.io is completely free for basic use. You can stream and download torrents without creating an account. Optional paid plans increase bandwidth and unlock Vault cloud storage.

Do I need a VPN to use Webtor.io? Will my ISP see what I download?

No VPN required. All traffic between you and Webtor.io travels over HTTPS. Your IP address is never exposed to the BitTorrent network because Webtor.io servers handle all peer communication. For your ISP, using Webtor.io looks no different from visiting any other website.

Can I use Webtor.io on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Webtor.io works in any modern mobile browser on iOS and Android. You can stream video, listen to audio, and download torrents without installing any additional apps.

What video and audio formats does Webtor.io support?

Webtor.io supports instant streaming for most popular formats. Video: AVI, MKV, MP4, WEBM, M4V, TS, VOB. Audio: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, M4A. Files that require transcoding may take a moment longer to start playing.

Is Webtor.io an open-source project?

Yes, 100%. All components of Webtor.io are distributed under the MIT license. You can visit the GitHub repository to view the source code and contribute.

Can I watch my library on a smart TV?

Yes! With the Stremio integration you can stream your personal library on any smart TV or device running Stremio. Just install the addon using the link from your profile.

Can I use my own Jackett or Prowlarr with Webtor?

Yes. Add your indexer's Torznab feed URL in your profile and its results appear next to your Stremio addons — both on the Discover page and in the Webtor Stremio addon. Webtor doesn't search anything itself; it plays what your own indexer returns.

Can Webtor tell me when a new episode or release comes out?

Yes. Subscribe to an airing season or a movie — from the Discover page or a torrent page — and Webtor will poll your connected indexers and Stremio addons, then email you when a new release appears. It works like Sonarr or RSS automation, but with nothing to host.

How do I open a .torrent file in my browser?

Drag your .torrent file into the upload area at the top of this page, or paste a magnet link into the search field. Webtor opens it instantly — pick the video or audio file you want and stream it, or grab a direct download link. There's no torrent client to install and nothing to set up.

What can I use to open a torrent file?

You don't need to install anything — Webtor opens torrent files right in your browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS. Upload the .torrent file or paste a magnet link, then stream the video or save the files over a regular HTTPS download. Desktop clients like qBittorrent or uTorrent also work, but they require installation and connect your device to the torrent swarm.

Read the step-by-step guide →
How do I download files from a magnet link without a torrent client?

Paste the magnet link into the search field at the top of this page. Webtor acts as an online magnet link downloader: it runs the magnet download in the cloud and gives you a direct HTTP download link for each file, plus a built-in player to stream video and audio. Your browser never connects to the BitTorrent network — Webtor servers handle that.

How do I use a magnet link?

Paste the magnet link into the search field at the top of this page — Webtor opens it in seconds, with no client to install. You can also drag and drop a .torrent file instead. Webtor fetches the data on its own servers, so your browser never joins the BitTorrent swarm; you simply stream or download the files.

How do I download torrented files without a torrent client?

Paste a magnet link or upload a .torrent file at the top of this page. Webtor fetches the torrent on its servers and gives you a direct HTTPS download link for every file — nothing to install, and it works on any device. Your browser never joins the BitTorrent swarm, so no open ports or client setup are needed.

Read the step-by-step guide →
How do I unzip a torrent file?

A .torrent file is not an archive, so there is nothing to unzip — it's a small metadata file that only describes the real content. To get the actual files, open the .torrent with Webtor and download them one by one, or use the Torrent to ZIP tool to download everything as a single ZIP or TAR archive.

Read the step-by-step guide →
Do download links or streams expire?

Yes, for security reasons direct download links and streaming sessions are temporary and may expire after a short time. You can always refresh or regenerate them from your library interface.

Why do some downloaded ZIP archives show a CRC error?

ZIP archives are generated on-the-fly and don't include full checksum data, so some extraction tools may show a CRC warning even when the file is intact. That's why directory downloads now default to TAR — the TAR format has no per-file checksums, so even an interrupted and resumed download unpacks cleanly. If you prefer ZIP, pick it from the arrow menu next to the download button and use 7-Zip for best compatibility.

Why is my download or streaming speed slow on Webtor.io?

Speeds may vary due to the number of seeders, file format (some require real-time transcoding), your internet connection, current server load, and your account type. Premium users get higher bandwidth.

Note: bandwidth is measured in Mbps (megabits per second), while file sizes are shown in MB (megabytes). 1 MB = 8 Mb, so a 50 Mbps connection gives roughly 6.25 MB/s download speed. Supporting the project helps unlock better speed and reliability.

Torrent streaming vs direct download — what's the difference?

A direct download makes you wait for the whole file before you can watch it. Webtor streams the torrent instead: playback starts in seconds and nothing piles up on your device — and when you do want a local copy, you can still save the file as a regular download.
